For many, churches are special places, so much more than simply a venue for your wedding. A church wedding will add a spiritual dimension to your marriage. The ceremony includes God and looks to Him for help and guidance. God’s blessing is the main attraction for many couples, whatever their beliefs.
For some couples, a church simply seems like the proper place to get married. Churches are peaceful and serene, often having an atmosphere that makes marrying there a particularly profound experience.
Church buildings offer outstanding beauty. Old or new, intimate or grand, the churches in Saint Lucia are some of the nation’s most stunning wedding venues.
Our churches are all decorated inside in true Caribbean tradition. Tall pillars supporting high vaulted ceilings, large open windows to draw in the cooling breeze, stained glass windows reflecting the light cast by the tropical sun and hand painted highly coloured friezes depicting holy scenes.
The Catholic Church does not allow for marriages outside of the church itself, but your Diocese will permit you to marry outside of your own parish church as long as the wedding takes place in another Catholic church. You can have your Catholic church wedding in paradise and we will help you through the process required by the church in order for your marriage to be fully recognised by your Diocese back home. The three main Catholic churches we use for weddings are:
~ St Joseph the Worker in Gros Islet
~ The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Castries
~ The Mount of Prayer in Coubaril, run by an order of Benedictine Nuns
Additionally, we have two beautiful Anglican churches in Saint Lucia, one in Castries and one in Riviere Doree in the south west of the island. Those of the Methodist denomination are also permitted to marry in the Anglican church.
Priests from denominations other than Catholic will also perform religious ceremonies in outdoor venues.
- "After looking at all of the beautiful venues, we chose to have the ceremony held at the Historical Ruins on Pigeon Island – so amazing and unlike any wedding we have ever attended!"Angela & Jeremy, Historical Ruins
